EHR/EMR Vendor Comparison
Paying the right price for an electronic health record (EHR), especially in the first year of use, is of paramount importance when choosing an EHR/EMR. It makes no sense to spend most of your first year Meaningful Use payment on your EHR, and that never happens with MediTouch®. HealthFusion’s® MediTouch EHR® solution is one of the most affordable electronic health records on the market today. Not only is our EHR system Web-based — it is a great value because it is feature rich, fully integrated with our clearinghouse and billing system, and it works great on the iPad®.
We have taken the liberty of reducing the laborious EHR/EMR shopping experience, by comparing many of the ASP EHR/EMR vendors, based on their published pricing on the Maryland Health Care Commission website, as well as their own respective websites. The following EHR/EMR vendor statistics compare our first year costs with other major vendors and their percent deviation from HealthFusion's® first year total price for a particular vendor; for example, the first year price total of HealthFusion's® MediTouch EHR® represents the baseline first year total price, as compared to Allscripts'® which is 96.2% higher than HealthFusion's®.*Statistics, provided by the Maryland Health Care Commission or the Vendor’s website, represent price for a single provider. First year ASP EHR/EMR prices include EHR/EMR, and if applicable, Practice Management, Patient Portal, and Setup/Training.
EHR/EMR Adoption and Implementation
The first year is an important year in EHR/EMR adoption; we suggest that EHR/EMR buyers only work with vendors that provide flexibility with regard to the length of commitment. Many of the EHR/EMR vendors listed require multi-year commitments that are not required with MediTouch EHR®. HealthFusion® allows providers to determine their own length of service; providers can pay month-to-month, subscribe for a year, or even enter into a multi-year contract. Therefore, when you work with MediTouch®, every month, every year we must continue to work hard to earn your business, not so with many of our competitors who force your practice to commit to a multi-year (usually 5 years) commitment.
Some vendors sell cheaper, sub-optimal EHR/EMR systems to small provider offices and charge less for their dummied-down versions than the version they sell to larger offices, that is never true with MediTouch®; with the MediTouch EHR® system you get the same EHR system we sell to large multi-specialty groups, even if you have a solo practice. HealthFusion® combines simplicity with sophistication, such that no matter how small or large your practice is, our EHR system is easy to use and ready for your practice on day one!
With MediTouch®, initial setup, maintenance, and training are always included at no additional charge. Some of the EHR vendors profiled on the graph will charge for training, and then charge your practice over and over again each time you hire a new employee.
Some EHR/EMR vendors may offer a “free EHR/EMR”, laden with advertisements that just so happen to promote various medical devices, remedies, and prescription drugs. Those EHR/EMR systems create an ethical dilemma and a liability risk for the physician. If doctors are distracted by ads, and even worse influenced by them, they will eventually be exposed to malpractice lawsuits that allege their medical care was unduly influenced by the advertising they agreed to participate in as part of the grand “bargain” for a "free EHR/EMR". Could that kind of moral compromise really be worth a couple of hundred dollars per month? Read more about the true cost of “free EHRs” in our blog titled, Free EHR Software — A Real Catch-22.
Other EHR/EMR vendors, especially client-server models, may force you to sign a long term contract or lease, locking in your EHR/EMR decision for years to come, often without included software updates; meaning providers get stuck with expensive, outdated EHR systems and software. As we have detailed in our blog titled, Cloud-Based vs. Client Server — What Is the Best EHR Infrastructure?, the best choice is a Web-based system that is updated every 2-3 months and does not require years of commitment. MediTouch EHR® combines affordability, efficiency, reliability, and mobility to provide the best all-in-one EHR on the market.
