Podiatrist is done charting at end of day thanks to MediTouch ease of use and customization.

The Challenge

cs-jeff-osbourne-imageDr. Jeff Osbourne, a podiatrist practicing in Greenfield, WI, found that he could never catch up with his charting on his old EHR; he always had “homework.” The software “was a headache, not user-friendly, and the templates were hard to use.” He wanted a new solution that would provide the customization, ease of use and podiatrist-friendly features he needed in order to streamline his charting.

The Solution

After meeting the HealthFusion team at a podiatry conference, Dr. Osbourne selected MediTouch as his replacement EHR in March 2013. He and his staff were able to learn the software and get started with it “quicker than I thought,” he said. “There really wasn’t much lag time at all, thanks to the HealthFusion implementation team.”

Ease of Use and Customization Make Charting at Night a Thing of the Past

Dr. Osbourne said that he found the user-friendly EHR he needed with HealthFusion’s MediTouch.

“MediTouch is simple, easy to use, and customizable,” he explains. “I can make my own Blueprints (templates) easily, and the system is not overwhelming to learn and use.”

Dr. Osbourne has found the ease of use and ability to customize to be the most valuable of all the features, he says, although he also likes the dual view mode, which splits the interface so that the user can create a SOAP note while simultaneously reviewing important chart information. The fact that he has access to allergies, medications, details of previous lab results and most every piece of vital patient chart information without leaving the encounter or clicking around makes his life much easier.

Additionally, he finds the podiatrist-specific features to be very useful.

“MediTouch has templates specific to podiatry, with the findings I need for podiatric medicine,” he said. “That is invaluable, and something my old EHR did not have. It really allows me to chart the way I need to.

“My staff finds it easy to use as well,” he added, “especially compared to our old system. It’s like night and day.”

After practicing for 20 years, Dr. Osbourne is happy to have found the right EHR for his practice, he said.

“Now, I’m caught up with my charting at the end of the day,” he said. “It makes a huge difference for my practice and my life.”

Meaningful Use Report Card

Dr. Osbourne successfully attested for Stage 1 Meaningful Use and is just getting started with Stage 2 Meaningful Use attestation, he explains that the MediTouch MU Report Card has been very helpful in the process. “We look at it and get a good picture of what we need to do,” he said. “That really helps us manage the process.”

Patient Portal

Although his practice has only been using their patient portal for three months, Dr. Osbourne said his staff likes it and finds it useful. He plans to execute some strategies to drive patient use of the portal, which is something we recommend.

Customer Support

HealthFusion Customer Support is always very helpful when he or his staff calls, Dr. Osbourne said. “I always felt like help was just a call away, and they never kept me waiting a long time,” he added.
